Over the past 7 years, Catherine McCarthy (Emmy-nominated for her work in documentary television) and I have been working on a feature-length profile of the life and work of the fascinating, controversial sex educator and artist Betty Dodson.

In the summer of 1995, I discovered Betty's best-selling book "Sex for One" in a used bookstore, and after we read her insightful and honest look at female sexuality, Catherine suggested we shoot a documentary. Tracking Betty down, gaining her confidence, and establishing a working relationship and friendship with her has been the work of years. This is a labor of love for all of us, and it has survived the many ups and downs that come with such a long-term project.
